Why Mindfulness? ~ The Problem
Do you ever find yourself stressed and tense, lost in patterns of anxious thinking and unable to relax?
Perhaps you are overwhelmed at work or at home, or struggling to cope with physical discomfort and illness.
Whatever its causes, the effects of stress and poor health can be huge. You might find yourself unable to focus, lost in negative self-talk and continually operating on overdrive. You may feel unproductive and continually playing catch-up. You may have lost a sense of creativity and mastery in your life – you are lost in stories about the past or worries about the future. At the end of the day, you feel spun out and exhausted.
You may have ‘taken time out for yourself’ in the past and felt guilty for not being productive, and felt like you are just making matters worse, or that you are avoiding something.
Perhaps you feel happy, relaxed and positively engaged in all the areas of your life, but you feel like you could be unlocking greater reserves of creativity, if only you knew how.
Mindfulness coaching can help you with all of this.
Here’s a list of mindfulness-related questions and concerns that people come to me with:
Why am I so stressed?
Why am I depressed? / Why do I feel depressed?
How can I live in the present moment?
How can I feel calmer?
How can I get out of my head?
Why do I feel stuck in the past?
Why do I feel so anxious?
The Solution ~ Mindfulness Coaching
Mindfulness coaching is about training yourself to come back to the present moment. Often when we are presented with a challenging situation, we can become lost in our fears and irritations or become depressed.
Using mindful approaches does not imply we should not plan our lives and think about the future, or think about the past but helps us to recognise where we are going into unhelpful, habitual states of mind that keep us trapped.
Mindfulness coaching helps you begin to pay more attention to your direct experience so that you are living more firmly in the here-and-now, whilst acknowledging that your life needs direction and application of the right kind of effort for you to move forwards with your projects.
A mindfulness coach is someone who is trained to help you let go of stresses, frustrations and low mood. A mindfulness coach has secific training that is different to a career / executive coach.
A mindfulness coach will lead you through a series of exercises and meditation practices that will help you understand you own mind. Practicing mindfulness will help to relieve pain, reduce stress and restore your natural sense of wellbeing.
There is a great deal of evidence to show that completing a mindfulness programme can have all sorts of associated positive effects such as increasing your productivity levels at work, bring about greater levels of empathy for yourself and others, and helping you to feel less overwhelmed and stuck in your life generally.
A Mindfulness Coach is not a Psychotherapist
I am not a trained psychotherapist. If you are suffering from severe depression, severe anxiety, panic attacks including PTSD, phobias, chronic addiction, eating disorders or personality disorders it would be best for you to see a professional who is trained in that specific area.
This exercise can act as an instant stress reliever: it works by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps with rest, relaxation and staying connected to yourself and others.
How Does Mindfulness Coaching Work?
You will be led through a series of meditation and body awareness exercises that bring about present-moment awareness. You will also be introduced to mindful practices to be completed daily in your home and work environment.
For example, you will be introduced to a set of practices called ‘habit releases’. These involve bringing special attention to short moments during your day, where
you would otherwise be preoccupied with something else.
Watching and attending to the boiling of a kettle without filling the time with another activity is a good example: try to attend to the sounds of the kettle boiling. Notice if you become bored or agitated or go off into stories about the past or future in a non-judgemental way. Try to feel the weight of your feet on the ground and notice the physical sensations of the body.
Some people find it may be helpful to keep a mindfulness diary as a way of keeping track of your experience and level of awareness.
Mindfulness coaching will be tailored to your needs and will be based on a strong awareness of you and your life. I will help you to apply mindful principles to your life so that you let go of stress and low mood and move back to a state of presence, potency and creativity.

Rob's presentation of mindfulness and meditation was relaxed and very clear. He really embodies the practices, demonstrating how they work by exploring lived experience right there and then.
At the end of each session I had connected with aspects of my experience I had not been aware of. I felt definitely more in touch with myself, more emotionally alive, more three-dimensional even!
Thank you.
Rob is a great teacher, he made me feel very welcome. He helped create a nice bond with the other attendees and we all felt at ease with each other.
The course material was very interesting and accessible, Rob made sure we all understood it and contributed to the sessions.
Rob's mindfulness teaching brought out the best of my thoughts and experiences. He was able to answer all my questions with great depth and understanding.
He paced the learning well with calmness, thoughtfulness and compassion.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to go on this journey with you.
Rob has been fantastic. He's easy to listen to and explains everything clearly and efficiently. He makes you feel comfortable and non-judged.
I would definitely recommend practicing and learning mindfulness with Rob.
Rob is very good at what he does. He was great at leading the group through the content and made the group at ease enough to share their experiences.
